Frequently asked questions

Short answers about joining, privacy, money, and the colophon.

Joining and accounts

Do I need the app to join an exchange?

No. A free account on brayer.app is enough to join, confirm your address, mark prints sent and received, and read the colophon.

What if the roster already has my name from a CSV import?

If the organizer added you by CSV before you joined, signing in with the same email claims that row instead of creating a new one, and carries over whatever the organizer already entered.

Money and privacy

What happens to the participation fee?

For now you pay the organizer directly, outside the app. The roster shows your status as No fee, Unpaid, Paid, or Refunded, and the organizer updates it once they've been paid. In-app payment is coming.

Who can see my mailing address?

Only you and the organizer. Other participants see your name, bio, print title, and submission status, never your email, address, or payment status.

Can I delete my account?

Not yet from the website itself. Email support@brayer.app and we'll delete it for you.

While the exchange runs

Can I leave an exchange after I join?

Yes, with the Leave exchange button on your exchange page, which asks you to confirm first. The organizer sees that your place has opened up. Organizers can't leave their own exchange; they'd cancel it instead.

How does the organizer know I sent my prints?

You mark your own prints sent from your exchange page, optionally with a photo of one impression as proof. The organizer sees that photo on their Submissions tab and marks your prints received once the envelope arrives.

Can I message just one person, or does everyone see it?

As a participant, you can post to Everyone or to the organizer only. The organizer can post to everyone or to any one participant. A direct message is only visible to its sender, its recipient, and the organizer.

What if I lose my join code?

Ask the organizer to send it again, or the link, from the message board or however you're in touch. The code and QR code both live on the organizer's exchange page.

After it closes

When is the colophon ready?

The organizer usually writes it once submissions are in, but the page is visible to every member as soon as the exchange exists. Until the dedication and introduction are written, you'll see the roster it will be built from instead.
