Privacy in an exchange
Who sees your email, address, payment status, and messages inside an exchange, and how to delete your account.
Updated 2026-09-09
An exchange asks for more personal information than a typical Brayer project: a mailing address, sometimes a fee, occasionally a proof photo of your own hands' work. What each person can see depends on their role, and it's worth knowing the rules before you type an address into a join form.
Who sees what
| You | The organizer | Other participants | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your name | yes | yes | yes |
| Your bio and print title | yes | yes | yes |
| Your submission status | yes | yes | yes |
| Your email | yes | yes | no |
| Your mailing address | yes | yes | no |
| Your payment status | yes | yes | no |
| The organizer's notes about you | no | yes | no |
| Your proof-of-sending photo | yes | yes | no |
| Broadcast messages | yes | yes | yes |
| A direct message | if it's to or from you | yes | no, unless it's addressed to them |
The short version: your fellow participants see the same roster the colophon draws from, name, bio, print title, and where things stand, and nothing more. Your email, mailing address, payment status, and any private notes the organizer keeps are visible only to you and the organizer, never to the rest of the group.
The organizer's address
The one exception runs the other way: the organizer's mailing address is visible to every member of the exchange, since that's where prints get mailed. It isn't public; someone who hasn't joined can't see it, even with the join link.
Messages
Anything posted to "Everyone" is visible to every member. A message sent to one person, either a participant writing to the organizer or the organizer writing to one participant, is visible only to the sender, the recipient, and the organizer. A participant can only address the organizer directly, not another participant; the organizer can address anyone on the roster.
Leaving doesn't erase history
Leaving an exchange removes you from the active roster, but it doesn't retroactively hide messages you already sent or received while you were a member, or delete placement records of prints already exchanged. If you want your data removed entirely rather than just your participation ended, that's covered by account deletion below.
Account deletion
Account deletion isn't yet self-serve on the website. Email support@brayer.app and we'll take care of it, roster rows and all.
